But where to get a good cubano in this neck of the woods? How many Cubans are living in the ozarks? And would such a place also have fried yucca-the staple side dish for any self-respecting cubano? Turns out, The Green Goat in the "Yacht Club" in Fayetteville on North College came to the rescue.
I know what you're thinking: "Is this a french fry blog or a cubano blog, Gibby?" Hold tight, dear reader, for I will not forsake your fervent interest in all things fried. For those of you who don't know, the yucca root is actually a vegetable that closely resembles potato-especially when it is cut up in the shape of fries and fried.
So when you eat fried yucca, you are actually removing toxins from your body and creating the ability to self-righteously call yourself a vegetarian. Also, they are super tasty.
They're kinda big, so that made up for the portion size looking a little on the slight side.
Yucca is fibrous, but this seems to create a crunchy-ness throughout the whole stick when it is fried, which is cool.
GG serves theirs with a tasty cilantro dip that was perfect.
And the cubano? BAM!
It was extraordinary. The pork was melt in your mouth tender, and the overall balance was spot on.
The Green Goat is one of those places that is killing it right now. Do it ASAP. They sell out of the pork pretty regularly, so you will need to hit it early in the day. And tell em Gibby sent ya!
